About Us

NBEHT was originally established in 1972 by people who have an interest in the built, natural and social environment of the town and surrounding area.

We have grown over the years and are now  delivering a number of projects and initiatives:

  • funding to consolidate the seventh-century  St Andrew’s Kirk at Kirk Ports

  • community-based arts-activism through  pARTicipate

  • a series of local heritage guides

  • a Planning and Built Heritage Group which is monitoring  local planning applications

We regularly contact officials of East Lothian Council and North Berwick Coastal Ward’s councillors on a variety of subjects including planning, landscape & countryside, roads, transport and architecture. We aim to contribute to the overall and ongoing improvement of North Berwick.

  • Olwyn Owen - Chair

I joined NBEHT because I care hugely about the natural and historic environment of North Berwick - which together make this such a special place. NBEHT works with others to conserve the best of the past and carries out projects to enhance our beautiful town. We really enjoy exploring historic North Berwick and sharing its stories with the community and visitors alike.

  • Ruth Wolstenholme - Secretary

  • Terry Denton - Treasurer

I got involved as I am passionate about North Berwick and it’s history. My role is to ensure we comply with our charitable duties and manage the accounts!

  • Julia Zeller-Jacques - Committee Member

I've been part of North Berwick’s High Street and its artistic community for several years and I hope by being part of the Trust, I can continue to help support local art and creative projects in the area.
